Midland Medical
Offering Nationwide Mast, Tower & Telecom Climber Health Assessments from only £180
About our Clinic
A Mast and Tower Safety (MATS) climber medical is a mandatory safety-critical evaluation engineered to ensure that telecom engineers, rigger personnel, and structural technicians are physically competent to work at extreme heights. Working on high masts, pylons, and communication towers places unique stresses on the human body, requiring precise fitness benchmarks.
Every Mast and Tower Safety medical examination executed across our network is overseen or signed off by a fully qualified, General Medical Council (GMC) registered doctor. Your physical assessment criteria fully satisfy standard Arqiva, telecom network provider, and national health framework safety parameters.
£180 includes step test
Optional + £60 for Drug and Alcohol test
Midland Medical Group provides fully certified MATS Climber Medical assessments including the Chester Step Test for a transparent, fixed price of £180. Unlike alternative occupational health firms that hit corporate clients with hidden administrative additions, travel extras, or surprise booking charges, our £180 fee represents the exact total balance you pay.
We operate a robust network spanning over 40 distinct clinic locations nationwide. Because we keep digital schedule calendars agile, you can effortlessly book an express, short-notice, or next-day climber assessment online via our booking engine. This allows independent riggers and urgent project engineers to satisfy site criteria without losing working days.
MATS climber medicals include an assessment of cardiorespiratory fitness and physical fitness to climb. In accordance with MATS Group Guidance Note GN-005, the Chester Step Test may be used to estimate aerobic capacity, although an appropriate practical fitness-to-climb assessment may also be accepted. GN-005 identifies an estimated VO₂ max of 27 mL/kg/min—equivalent to reaching level 4 of the Chester Step Test—as an acceptable minimum standard of fitness to climb. Individual employers or network operators may impose additional or higher fitness requirements, which should be confirmed before the assessment.
