What is the blood pressure limit for HGV medical?

Blood Pressure Rules for Group 2 Drivers:

• Maximum permitted reading is 179/99 mmHg.
• Applies to all Class 1, Class 2, PCV, and commercial drivers.
• Medication to manage blood pressure is fully permitted.
• Medication must not cause side effects that impair driving safely.

The DVLA enforces strict cardiovascular standards for heavy goods and passenger-carrying vehicles. During your D4 medical, our doctors will take a baseline blood pressure reading. If it is elevated above the 179/99 threshold—which can sometimes happen due to “white coat syndrome” or travel stress—we allow a resting period before taking up to three additional readings.

If you are already taking anti-hypertensive medication, you can still easily pass the medical, provided your blood pressure is well-managed and your treatment does not induce dangerous side effects like severe drowsiness or dizziness.
