You don’t need your entire file, but you must bring a “Medical Summary” or “Patient Summary” from your GP. This allows our doctor to verify your history and any ongoing medications quickly.

How long is the NMC Health Declaration valid?

Why do I need an NMC medical after passing my OSCE?

Generally, the NMC requires the health declaration to be completed within six months of your application. Always check your specific application timeline to ensure the certificate remains valid.

What does the "Fitness to Practice" declaration cover?

It covers your general physical health, immunization status, and mental wellbeing. The doctor must certify that you do not have any conditions that would impair your ability to care for patients.

Is my mental health history a problem for registration?

The focus is on “stability.” Having a history of a mental health condition does not stop you from being a nurse; the doctor simply needs to confirm it is currently managed and you are resilient for the role.
